Tracy Morgan is headed for the States! That’s right the comedian is joining forces with Eddie Murphy in Paramount’s sequel to the 1988 comedy, ‘Coming to America’ titled ‘Coming 2 America,’ but the 2 being the number two.
The original film followed Murphy playing Prince Akeem, a spoiled prince from a fictional African nation, who shows up in Queens, New York, and goes undercover by getting a job at a McDonald’s knock off while trying to find a wife.
The sequel is said to follow Akeem, now set to become king, discovering that he actually has a son he never knew about, a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. Akeem sets out to honor his father’s dying wish to groom his son to become the newly crowned prince, thus Akeem must once again return to America.
Other stars set for the sequel include Wesley Snipes, ‘Saturday Night Live’s Leslie Jones and ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ star Kiki Layne. Layne is said to play Akeem’s daughter meanwhile Jones is on tap to play the baby-mama, the result of a one-night stand with Akeem, now raising their son.
Tracy Morgan will play Jones’ brother, a hustler named Reem. Returning cast members include Arsenio Hall as Akeem’s right-hand man and James Earl Jones making his return as Akeem’s father. Production will begin later this month with the sequel set for a Dec. 18, 2020 release date.
