PlayStation Productions is clear that he wants to take care of even the smallest detail of his new creation. The series of The Last of Us is already a reality, one that will count all the events prior to the imminent The Last of Us Part II and that will be supervised by Neil Druckmann, writer of the two video games. Now, another more than necessary transfer has just been confirmed. And it is that Gustavo Santaolalla will be in charge of composing the music for the series.
The author of the iconic melody of the first game, and also responsible for the BSO that is to come, will be responsible for the musical section in this other project. Druckmann himself announced the signing of Santaolalla in a Twitter message, clarifying that “beyond lending his incredible musical talent to The Last of Us Part II, Gustavo Santaolalla will join us in bringing The Last of Us to HBO!”
At the moment, it is unknown when this joint production with HBO will be released, although we already know that the chords that characterized the original game so much in the musical aspect will be very present. In fact, they will arrive under the baton of the same person who signed and interpreted them at the time.
Sony and PlayStation go all out with this project coming out of nowhere, and they promise to put all the meat on the grill to satisfy both fans and non-fans. Will you also take advantage of part of the plot of TLOU2 to enrich your plot? You can bet on it, even if current plans are to focus on the story of the first game and its DLC.
What about The Last of Us movie?
For a few years now, the idea of releasing a The Last of Us movie seemed a bit over the top. The same Neil Druckmann would collaborate with Sam Raimi, author of the original trilogy of Spider-Man, to shape a film set in the universe of Naughty Dog games. However, the project had been silent for too long and with no news on the horizon.
With the announcement of the TV series of The Last of Us, it seems that the status of the feature film has been more than clear. In parallel to the announcement, sources assured that the series would have meant the cancellation of the film, and that is that PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures would have preferred to focus on this other format to tell the story they wanted to tell. Still, we’ll have to wait to see if, in effect, the TLOU movie has disappeared or will go ahead with another idea in mind.
