The singer-turned-actor is in early negotiations to play the iconic role of Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid“, and I’m swooning.

This news comes after “The Little Mermaid” founds its Princess Ariel in singer Halle Bailey of R&B; duo Chloe x Halle. Plus, Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina are also all in talks to be part of Ariel’s world.

An early 2020 production start is being planned. Harry Styles, of course, brings his vocal chops to the table, but interestingly enough. The character Prince Eric performed no songs in the 1989 original animated movie.

However, Eric performed several songs in the Broadway musical, including two solos. Now, as any Directioner, or really, anyone knows, Styles was famously a member of the boy band One Direction before embarking on a super successful solo career.

Harry Styles made his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk”, which collected several Oscars. The budding actor had been looking for a new project to take on and even tested for the lead in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic. That part went to Austin Butler earlier this week.
